EYFS Module and FREE Post C19 On-Entry Diagnostic Assessment for N, R and Y1 by Matt Koster-Marcon

New EYFS Assessment Tool

You asked us, so we’re going to build it – a specific module for Early Years is coming in 2020/21!

We’ve also worked with Jan Dubiel to create a new ‘light-touch’ On-Entry Diagnostic Assessment tool for practitioners in YN, YR and Y1, addressing the specific post-C19 needs of 2020/21.

We’re making this free for everyone. Just register your setting’s details below for access.

Why create an EYFS Module?

We’ve been being asked for years to tackle this, because there’s very clearly a need.

Learning Journals are great, but they don’t do data very well and often overwhelm pedagogy.

Trackers do data (ish!) but don’t come with very exciting functionality for Early Years needs.

And nobody has really cracked the transition into KS1. So we were delighted when Jan (who we worked with to build the Baseline that 15,000+ settings choose) suggested that Learning Ladders was best placed to tackle this trickiest of problems.

We’ve been privately working away together for the last few months on a new framework.

In September we’ll be launching the first of our additional EYFS features within Learning Ladders to enable more EYFS colleagues to use the system on a day-to-day basis.

But this is just the start. Over the next 6 months we’ll then test and refine a whole range of integrated features, ensuring we co-create a truly best-in-class system for EYFS professionals.

More than a Learning Journal. More than a Tracker. Great pedagogy, supported by great tech.

Why create an on-entry assessment tool?

This was conceived following the hugely positive response to Jan’s recent thought-piece that we published in April suggesting the DfE rethink the Baseline for 2020/21 (which they now have).

The OEDA (On Entry Diagnostic Assessment), is a free assessment that has been specifically created to address the challenges of children starting YN, YR and Y1 in September 2020 following the Covid-19 Lockdown.

It is not intended to replace existing ongoing assessment systems but provide a unique, specific and responsive assessment to identify individual needs on entry.

Using simple criteria based on the professional judgement of the teachers, it will entail a judgement of whether the child is ‘secure’ or ‘requires additional support’ in each aspect. This will provide an overall picture of the child, and the cohort, in terms of their:

  • Emotional and Psychological Wellbeing
  • Social Development
  • Independence and Autonomy
  • Self-Care and Hygiene
  • Physical Development
  • Language and Communication

Just register below and we’ll be in touch over the summer with login details to the On-Entry EYFS Assessment Tool.  Please provide us with information about your context so we can ensure we’ve a broad range of settings using it.

You can also register using the same form and we’ll keep you updated about the new EYFS module.

We look forward to working with Early Years colleagues to create a truly amazing Early Years system – do get involved!
